Strike a blow for kitten-pictures!

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Vote for tomhume.org in the best digital media blog award at NetImperative. Irritating registration required.

In Tom’s words:

My weblog’s been nominated for an award by NetImperative, a new media news site thingy. Obviously all awards are all worthless, and new media awards even more so, except the ones I win, which are great, worthy and well-earned.

So could I ask you to vote for me? The other contenders are pretty rubbish - Ofcom, The Guardian, etc. - and this is your opportunity to strike a blow for kitten-pictures and introspective rubbish online.

A worthy cause. Unfortunately, now I need to find an award I can win with pictures of my friends band and even more introspective rubbish.

Ikkyu doorway Descent into Ikkyu Crazy karaoke ornament with nuts like pomegranites

Ant and I stumbled across some very tasty Japanese food by Goodge Street tube last night. Ikkyu is right next door to the Church of Scientology trap - convenient if you want to quickly follow your sushi by getting hooked up to an E-meter and indoctrinated into a crazy UFO cult.

The doorway is non-descript and there was some kind of ugly looking piping in the stairwell, but downstairs the restaurant is pleasantly cluttered with crates of beer, ingredients and various oriental knick-knacks like the statue I photographed. The mostly Japanese clientele around us managed to order feasts of good looking Sushi, which left me slightly jealous looking down at my grilled mackerel meal. It tasted excellent, but I could still see the table between the dishes - must try harder next time.

A Shrimp called Seymour

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

I’m now the proud owner of four beautiful little shrimps, enclosed in a small ecosphere. It was an extremely generous birthday present from Sarah and I’m feeling very spoilt.

So far, one smaller reddish shrimp stands out from the others. I’ve named him Seymour, which I misremembered as the name of the bizarre muppet shrimp. It turns out that the muppet I had in mind was Pepe the Prawn rather than Seymour the Shrimp, but it’s too late to change my mind now. My shrimp is named after an elephant.

Pictures will follow, once I get some good ones.

Update: I found a recording of the Seymour and Pepe song

WordPress 1.5 Released

Friday, February 18th, 2005

Wordpress 1.5 has just been released.

Here are the instructions for upgrade 1.2 to 1.5.

Bad luck Phil, your Kubrick theme has been adopted as the new wordpress default. You’re no longer a beautiful snowflake.

Update: Things will be ugly here until I get a new header graphic built.

CONTRA-COLA

Fascinating info from the Straight Dope

The Straight Dope: Can Coca-Cola be used as a contraceptive?

One can envision the day when the contraceptive properties of a brand might become an integral part of its marketing strategy, e.g.:

… and tastes great too!

The potential, I think, is enormous.

Adios Nadia!

Nadia Lee Justin

Nadia is leaving GT on Wednesday, following a satisfying piss-up last Friday. She will be missed!

Former colleagues or voyeuristic strangers may want to check out her site, which was ceremonially defaced as part of the farewell proceedings.

Update: I just found about thirty pictures on my phone from Friday’s cab journey to Old Street. Two were in focus - see above.
Update 2: Found a scary manic photo of Justin from the same night.
