A real achievement

Finally saw a short set from The Sailplanes on Wednesday evening at the G-Lounge in Camden. It’s only fair to say they were fantastic.
The band before them on the bill played some impressively derivative and charisma free industrial music, managing to completely clear the venue in about ten minutes. Ant thought the most interesting thing about them was that their singer shaved his armpits, but really that was more disconcerting than interesting.
BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Cheney shoots man in hunt error
Katharine Armstrong said Mr Cheney had turned round to shoot at a bird, unaware that Mr Whittington was behind him. He sprayed Mr Whittington with shotgun pellets.
“The covey flushed and the vice-president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by God, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good,” she said.
Sounds to me like shooting a lawyer is a strong contender for “the least evil thing Dick Cheney has ever done”.

I never expected to agree with Elle magazine on the matter of music, but believe it or not, February’s Elle magazine features a short endorsement of deadboy & the elephantmen, complete with photograph of Dax Riggs and Tessie Brunet.
I’ve been a huge fan of all Dax’s music ever since getting hold of both Acid Bath albums in the late nineties. You’d have to hear or at least read some lyrics to see why it’s not typical women’s magazine fare.
After this, nothing is strange.
All this anger over the cartoons would have been more exciting if the cartoons had been funny or clever enough to bother reading. By rights this one should be worthy of a couple of fatwahs.
We found the fourth pygmy catfish dead inside our aquarium filter last night. It must have hidden in there as soon as it was put in the tank and starved after a few days. I tried to chase it out when we cleaned the filter on Saturday, but it managed to hide out of sight in a corner until I’d finished.
Can’t grumble too much: after one month two fish have died in our tank and seven have been born, so that makes for a net gain of five fish.
Despite a busy weekend, I managed to make it to a fish shop with Sarah this weekend.
This is how our tank looks at the moment.
The net box in the top left is full of week old guppy fry. I fed them live miniature bloodworm last night and enjoyed the bloodthirsty sight of tiny fish struggling to subdue consume a wriggling worm their own length. Bloodworm are midge larvae, so I have no qualms about sending them to gruesome deaths. This is what the fry look like:
On to the new fish. We bought a new female guppy:
We picked up four pygmy cory catfish, each of them about 15mm long. One of them has completely disappeared - I think we got a dud. The other three are great fun, constantly scooting around the tank and grubbing through the gravel:
Lastly, we picked up a vegetarian Otocinclus who will be employed to keep our tank algae free. Since we’ve been advised that unique and imaginative names for small fish are a bad idea, we’re calling him Otto.
