Yat-Kha & Babar Luck @ The Windmill
Well, nobody else wanted to go, but I still ventured down on my own last night to see Yat-Kha and Babar Luck play at the Windmill in Brixton.
Yat-Kha were incredible. Albert Kuvezin’s Tuvan throat sung vocals are simply stunning, at times I could swear he was singing two notes at once. Having read a little more about that type of singing, it’s now obvious that’s what he was doing.
You’ll get funny looks if you play them to anyone else, but check out these mp3s: Orgasmatron (Motorhead cover) and Kozhamyk.
From Wikipedia: According to Russian critic Artemi Troitsky, “There are two unique voices on Earth right now; they belong to Pavarotti and Kuvezin.”
Babar Luck is a very entertaining crazy man to watch. He’s at least as much raconteur and shaman as he is a musician. He’d make a good Prime Minister. I’d vote for him.

If you like Joy Division, check out Love Will Tear Us Apart.
I’m going to buy the album of covers and possibly a couple of others. Regrettably I didn’t have much cash on me last night. Since Babar Luck was running the merchandise table he kindly let me buy his album for the bargain price of £1.93 and €2, which was everything I had left in my pocket at the end of the evening.

Sepultura did a wicked cover of Orgasmatron - But Lemmy did it best.

True. I’ve got a good live recording of Sepultura’s version somewhere.
How do you like the Yat-Kha version?

I’m in an Excel training course - Can’t listen to it yet. Will do tomorrow - At work. Ha!

I’d just like to add that Seps version of Orgasmatron is awesome!
I am jealous of all the live gigs I can no longer see in London. Here in HK I know they recently had Engelbert Humperdink! For some reason - maybe his b-side on the Chilli’s ‘Love Rollercoaster - I did’nt go.
Today is a celebration though. I get to see a live band tonight. Covers but that’s HK!

Hey, just listened to their version of Orgasmatron. Not bad. Different. He’s got some wicked weird voice. Reminds me a little of Pete Steele it’s so low.
It’s Jamie btw. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
