Poetry Archive Launch @ The British Library

Seamus Heaney

Dogger, Rockall, Malin, Irish Sea:
Green, swift upsurges, North Atlantic flux
Conjured by that strong gale-warming voice,
Collapse into a sibilant penumbra.

Champagne, poetry and tasty ham-wrapped asparagus snacks marked the launch of the Poetry Archive site at the British Library last night. It was a great chance for our production team to meet the poets who’ve contributed recordings and interviews to the site. I’m a hopeless schmoozer, but I remember chatting to Brian Moses, Valerie Bloom, Wes Magee and Hugo Williams in the warm glow of a plasma screen showing off our work and theirs together.

The speeches were very good: Andrew Motion generously called us geniuses, Chris Smith pointed out what a useful resource the site will be for our children’s children and finally Seamus Heaney wrapped up and read two of his own poems: Mossbawn Sunlight and The Shipping Forecast, excerpted above.

This blog has become as inactive as Hugh’s blog. Or Ant’s blog. I’m gonna get me a blog then you’ll know the meaning of the word pointles and egotistical. Myspace nearly fills that function, but not quite.

Do you think I’m the funniest person you know? Go on, out of ten, how funny?

  2. Jamie Says:

    **** ME I’M BORED. Can you swear on here? Let’s see… ****!

  3. Jamie Says:

I hope your parents don’t read this Pete.

    Or anyone else actually.

Yeah, there’s not much happening this week. I almost went to see Tim’s band again last night, but ended up working late instead.

You can have a blog on here if you want. I might as well use my web server for something.

Here’s my incomplete numerical review of Jamie:

    9 / 10 funny

    10 / 10 yearning for external validation

    7 / 10 resemblance to famous uncle

If you need anything else rating, let me know.

Donovan looks nothing like me. He’s also a cousin. *tut*

Yeah, gimmie a blog. Gimmie a blog! Is it difficult to run? I need a new computer I reckon too. and a name. Mmm.

You may wish to choose a new photo and name for the blog.

I’m not giving you a new computer, although I have a spare ancient one kicking around if you need one that does the basics.

Would it be too unreasonable to change that title and photo? Nicely done and all, but you know “Jamie Loves Men” doesn’ty have the right ring to it. Excuse the pun.

How about “Punch in the Neck” - It’s an 0898z tune. I like the colours but why not use that pic without a drunk Chris? Go on, change it, I dare you. Seriously though, I need lessons in how to update it.
